Summer 2019
Dear Milltown Members,
We did it again! Congratulations on another wonderful Quilt Show. It was truly awesome to see all the creative talent we have in our guild. But perhaps even more inspiring and heartwarming, was to see the way our members worked together to support each other in our efforts.
It would be impossible to mention everyone’s name and contribution, but we would like to recognize the Quilt Show committee chairs for their hard work. A special thank you goes to:
Barbara Asner and Karen Acosta for designing, and recruiting members to create our beautiful raffle quilt.
Barbara Gardner and Patty Knapp for scheduling the Raffle Quilt visits, promoting ticket sales, and manning the Raffle Quilt table throughout the show.
Candace Hutcheson and Denise Havery for getting the word out and having our fliers and cards designed and printed.
Kathy DeShong for procuring and taking care of our 6 vendors.
Karen Acosta and Doreen Anderson who stepped up and gave up a large part of their time at the guild meetings photographing quilts for registration.
Lois Hollander, Barbara Gastinger, and Diane Juray worked on designing the registration forms, getting them on our website and then organizing them in an efficient manner.
Sue Slater and Marilyn O’Loughlin who once again headed up the group that received, dispersed, and returned our quilts in a such a smooth, well organized fashion. They make it look so easy!
Mary Lou Brittingham and her team efficiently received over 500 visitors to our show.
Barbara Dyer for arranging Rita Verroca as our speaker. Barbara also solicited and organized donations for the creation of 2 beautiful raffle baskets worth over $300 each.
Shirley Carey, Glenda Kruger and Honore Francois for creating and running the new combination Artisan Alley and Quilts for Sale area.
Barbara Asner and Bonnie Miller for not only promoting gift ideas and donations, and then organizing the hundreds they received for the Sew Unique Shoppe, but manning it throughout the show. What an attractive display they produced with the help of Pat Santavicca and her husband who brought in her own display racks and set up the booth on Tuesday.
Casey Dutton for setting up, organizing, and manning the Peddler’s Table. Her team not only dealt with guild inventoried and priced contributions, but prepared Carolyn Buckingham’s contributions for sale.
Diane Juray for creating the detailed and color-coded handout and map for the show. And Barbara Gastinger for creating and putting up all those great signs throughout the church directing people to the correct areas.
Diane Dunlap and her team set up beautiful displays for our Friendship Quilts, and Quilts of Valor; as well as a lovely memorial table for our deceased members.
Natalie Swanson stepped right up to her new position and gave us a delightful lunch on Wednesday. (I want that delicious salad recipe!) The hospitality room she maintained was a welcoming retreat for our members during the show. Thank you to all who contributed snacks to keep us going.
Sue Klish who worked on designing, ordering, and counting the ballots for the Viewer’s Choice Awards. And Barbara Gastinger for designing and printing the new Viewer’s Choice ballots.
Colleen Hughes who ensured that the show was well staffed and that “white glovers” knew their duties.
Barbara Gastinger for her work as treasurer. Not only for ensuring that monies were collected and disbursed appropriately, but for collecting monies almost hourly throughout the show. And, of course, Glenda Kruger was her back up after
the show closed making sure the reimbursement checks were distributed and the additional money coming in was handled.
Theresa Tiburzi and Barbara Gastinger who spent “a lot of time” in planning how to arrange the various size and style quilts in order to create a beautiful show. They worked with the new company we used, Alliance Exposition, to ensure the correct number and placement of pipes and drapes needed for display. And if that wasn’t
enough, then Theresa devised an organizational chart and signs to ensure that volunteers knew just where each quilt was to be hung. Barbara, using her own organizational system, printed out all those detailed quilt labels. We think you’ll
agree that they did a wonderful job. And thanks to Pat Brousil and her husband, we have a digital record of every quilt in the 2019 Quilt Show. Thanks for taking all those pictures.
To All those Family Members who came in to help us Set-Up and Take-Down our Show. Your presence was noteworthy. Overheard comments include “He didn’t even need a ladder!”, “He just picked it up and carried it off all by himself! “He must have made a zillion trips up and down those stairs!”, and my favorite “Do you need help with that?” That was a lot of carrying, lifting, walking and a huge help! Thank you all.
To All Members – Thank you for your work on various committees, contributions to Sew Unique, Artisan Alley, and Raffle baskets, for selling Raffle Quilt Tickets, for helping to Setup, Staff, and Take-down the show, for all of the time, hard work, and support you put in to making our show a success. AND, last but not least, for your quilts: enjoyed by all and an inspiration to fellow quilters!
We hope everyone has a wonderful and relaxing summer break. In those peaceful moments, when you reflect on what a wonderful quilt show we had, what beautiful new quilts you want to put in the next show, and how much fun it was spending time with your fellow guild members…. take some time to think about our next quilt show and
what committee you would like to work on. It may seem like Spring 2021 is far in the future, but a good show takes a lot of time and planning. So, if you are interested in being a Quilt Show Chair or working on the 2021 Raffle Quilt, please speak up. It’s never too early to start planning. We think that you will enjoy it just as much as we enjoyed being the 2019 Quilt Show co-chairs. And we know for a fact, that your friends and
fellow guild members will be right there to help you. This is a personal thank you to everyone for all for your help, your encouragement, your advice, and your compliments to us. They were all much appreciated.
Most Sincerely,
Pat Miller and Becky Gioffre
Thank you to all who supported our quilt show by volunteering many (above and beyond) hours to make our show a success. It truly takes ” ALL” of us, working together to make that success happen. It was work, but we were rewarded with the delightful smiles and compliments from our visitors. Thank you again, Milltown!
Colleen
